Attractions and events

The civil parish of Mayfield and Five Ashes has a wealth of local attractions and events, many reaching back into its medieval history.  Mayfield High Street contains many beautiful old buildings, with the oldest dating back to the early 1400s.  A mile away, the site of Mayfield Furnace tells the story of when Mayfield was the centre of the iron industry in England with a national monopoly on making cast iron guns.  Nearby Argos Hill Windmill is one of the few remaining post mills in England.

Bayham Old Abbey

Bayham Abbey is now set in grounds designed by famous landscape gardener Humphry Repton, who also planned the grounds of Kenwood House in London. Bedgebury National Pinetum and Forest
